Does this sound like your child?
- Avoids reading or gets upset when it's time to read
- Guesses at words instead of sounding them out
- Reads slowly, word by word
- Reads a page but can't tell you what happened
- Scores are low on iReady, FAST or STAR reading
- The teacher says your child is below grade level in reading
You're not alone, and it's not too late. Reading is the number one reason Miami families come to us.
How We Help Your Child Read
- We find your child's reading level. We start by seeing exactly where your child is, so we work on what they actually need, not just what's on tonight's homework.
- We fill the gaps. Phonics, sight words, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, in the right order, one skill at a time.
- We connect it to school. We help with reading homework and online programs like iReady, Lexia and Reading Plus, and prepare students for the FAST reading test and STAR assessments.
- We keep you updated. You'll hear how your child is doing, in English or Spanish.
What we work on, by Grade
Kindergarten to 2nd grade: learning to read
Letter sounds, phonics, blending sounds into words, sight words and first steps in comprehension.
3rd to 5th grade: reading with confidence
Fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and FAST reading preparation. In 3rd grade, the spring FAST reading score affects promotion, so starting early matters.
6th to 8th grade: reading to learn
Main idea, inference, finding evidence in the text and writing about what they read, the skills every subject depends on in middle school.
One-on-one and small groups, with bilingual tutors
Students work one-on-one or in small groups with the same tutors week after week, so we get to know how your child learns. Our team is bilingual, so we can explain your child's progress in English or Spanish, whichever you prefer.

What parents say
"My son was in 3rd grade in the 2018–2019 school year and was failing all his reading assignments and the FSA practice test. The dedication of how they work with the kids is amazing. I'm excited to say my son passed his FSA, and I owe this to Open Mind Learning."
— Annette Cabrera, Hialeah
"I came to them with my daughter when she was about to fail 2nd grade, and today she not only passed but is already in 5th grade and excelling."
— Dorindys Naranjo, Miami
